These terms explain how our tutoring works: the free demo class, enrollment, scheduling, fees and refunds, and your parent portal account. Please read them before you enroll.

Sterling Academy (thesterlingacademy.com) is an online tutoring service ("we", "us"). Our business address is East London, United Kingdom.
By submitting the enrollment form or using the parent portal, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't enroll.
We provide one-to-one online tutoring for children, delivered live by our teachers, and a parent portal where you can follow your child's classes, attendance, progress, teacher notes, teaching plan and fees.
Your child's first class is a free demo, so you can meet the teacher and see how we teach before you commit to anything. It is also the way to decide whether our tutoring is right for your child before you pay, which is why payments aren't refundable (see section 7).
Submitting the enrollment form is a request, not a confirmed place. We'll contact you to confirm a teacher, schedule and start date.
When you enroll you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, that you're at least 18, and that the details you give us are accurate. Please tell us if they change.
Classes take place at the recurring times agreed with you. You can ask to change your schedule at any time through us or the parent portal.
Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a class. A class cancelled with less notice, or missed without notice, is counted as taught and is still charged. If something unavoidable happens, tell us and we'll do our best to rearrange it.
If a teacher can't make a class, we'll reschedule it or arrange another teacher at no extra cost.
Fees are set per billing period, are in pounds sterling (£), and are shown in your parent portal, including any discount applied. We don't take online payments yet: payment is arranged directly with us.
Each fee shows its due date in your parent portal, and is payable by that date using the payment method we agree with you. If a fee becomes overdue we'll contact you, and we may pause classes until it's settled.
We give every family a free demo class so that you can meet the teacher, see how we teach and decide whether we're the right fit before you pay anything. Because of that, fees are non-refundable once they have been paid.
In practice, this means we can't refund a payment once it has been made, including for classes you haven't used yet or for lessons you decide to stop part-way through a billing period. If you're ever unsure, please ask us before you pay. We're always happy to answer questions or arrange a demo.
If we cancel a class, we'll rearrange it as described in section 5, so you don't lose it. This section doesn't affect any rights you have by law, for example if a class isn't provided with reasonable care and skill.
Classes run online. For younger children, we ask that a parent or guardian is nearby during sessions.
We expect respectful behaviour from everyone in a session, and a teacher may end a session if it isn't safe or appropriate to continue.
We don't record sessions unless we have first asked you and you have agreed.
We create your portal account after enrollment. Keep your password private and change the temporary one when you first sign in. Tell us straight away at support@thesterlingacademy.com if you think someone else has access to your account.
Plans, worksheets and other resources we share are for your child's own learning. Please don't copy, share or sell them without our permission.
We'll provide our tutoring with reasonable care and skill. Every child learns differently, so we can't guarantee particular results, grades or exam outcomes.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit, or any rights you have by law as a consumer. Beyond that, we're responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill, and not for losses that weren't foreseeable.
You can stop lessons at any time by telling us. A billing period you've already paid for isn't refunded (see section 7), and your child can keep attending the classes in it until it ends.
We may end the arrangement if fees remain unpaid or these terms are seriously broken, and we'll tell you why.
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and we'll let you know before an important change affects you.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute about them. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
